Why Jon?

Campaigns are not popularity contests – they are job interviews.  The citizens of Wendell deserve the most qualified, engaged, and genuine representatives to lead this town.  And my qualifications can be summarized in three basic ways: Leadership, Experience, and Vision

Leadership

  • Proven history of effective leadership and navigating difficult situations to achieve a successful outcome
  • Demonstrated experience in having to make big decisions with little time that have a significant impact on others.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills that focus on results but allow opportunity for discussion and collaboration.

Experience

  • Over 30 years working in government at the county and federal level, understanding the importance of community engagement, transparency, and fiduciary responsibility
  • Two decades of dedicated service to the Wendell community through volunteering and leadership on your Fire Department 
  • Serving the last 6 years on the Wendell Planning Board, most recently as the Chair, leading this forum through a period of intense growth 
  • Appointed member of the Wendell Blueprint 2030 Steering Committee, actively participating in this essential project to guide the future of our community
  • Hold an undergraduate degree from Western Carolina University and a Dual MBA/MHA degree from Pfeiffer University
  • Graduate of the UNC School of Government Municipal and County Administration program and the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer program

Vision

  • Ensuring responsible growth in Wendell by affirming that projects are compliant with adopted plans and most importantly, make sense and honor what makes us unique
  • Being fiscally responsible with tax dollars by ensuring that expenditures directly reflect a tangible investment into the community
  • Appropriately expanding town staff to meet the various needs of the community, consistent with providing a government for the people 
  • Expand Town communications and engagement with the citizens through various mediums so that the citizens not only understand what is going on in Wendell, but a logical explanation of why
  • A personal commitment to being a proactive leader on the Town Board as one that acts with humility, dedication, and a passion towards evolving Wendell for both today and for tomorrow
